Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to assist in the production of cored wire by helping line operators and preparing the finished product for shipment; may also be assigned to work in shipping, receiving and fabrication areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Knowledge of proper handling of powders for identification, handling, storage, and disposal purposes.
- Follow S.O.P.s [standard operating procedures] for labeling and identifying material (DOT, trial, cage I.D. labels, and color-coded product labels, following customer specifications).
- Must know how to safely operate equipment including fork truck, overhead crane, stretch wrap machine, welder, bander, strip de-coiler, scrap cutter, powder retrieving mixer, vacuum, and all other small tools in plant.
- Weld straps on or band finished cage when operator is finished. Weigh, identify, package and store finished materials to be shipped to customer.
- Assure that line operator always has proper strip size and gauge on strip de-coiler and note on paperwork all necessary information.
- Maintains and cleans all small tools (i.e., bander, crimper, pliers, caulking gun, drill, pop rivet gun, hammer, staple gun, nail gun, wire cutters, metal shears, ratchet, torch cutter, and impact wrench).
- Follow production schedule in preparing level winder mandrel with appropriate cage or cut-out.
- Band up and store empty pallets in designated areas.
- Put floor sweepings in drum, seal, weigh, identify, and store in appropriate location.
- Fill flow-bins when required, noting to only handling certain powders because of OSHA restrictions.
- Cut scrap into barrels. Retrieve and identify powder, when possible, using mixer.
- Knowledge of production computer system.
- Maintain fork truck and overhead crane maintenance logbooks.
- General clean-up of production facility, which may include the lunchroom, washroom, as well as trash removal.
- Assist in all areas of Production as needed.
- Attend safety meetings as required.
Skills And Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous fork truck, overhead crane, and welding experience a plus.
- Previous experience in a production and/or manufacturing environment a plus.
- Employee must be punctual and dependable. Overtime may be required, where needed.
- Willingness to work both day and/or night shift, as well as cover for absences.
- Schedule may change with a short notice, based on Customer demand.
- Frequently works with gloves and eye protection.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
- Cooperative attitude towards co-workers and supervisors.
