Property Management Group Overview
In conjunction with SL Green’s diverse investment strategy, we provide direct property management services to over 80% of commercial, retail, and mixed-use properties in the New York City portfolio alone. The Property Management team is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of the portfolio.

Your new role
The Property Assistant provides support to all members of the Property Management team. You will have the opportunity to gain exposure to all aspects of Property Management with room for growth. The role is responsible for performing administrative functions, assisting with recurring financial reports, monitoring vendor performance, scheduling and facilitating back of house operations, and documenting compliance related certificates. At SL Green, we provide a comprehensive Property Assistant Training Program for all new hires, which provides a fulsome overview of job functions and responsibilities, taught by our in-house center of excellence team.
The ideal candidate will possess a high level of energy, enjoy wearing multiple hats and be able to work independently. The successful candidate should possess a “can do” attitude and enjoy the administrative challenges of supporting an office of diverse people. The Property Assistant will have the opportunity to work with a tightly knit team in and be exposed to all aspects of commercial real estate ownership and operation.
Key Responsibilities
Tenant Relations
- Assist with building correspondence to and from tenants as directed by respective Property Manager or Portfolio Manager.
- Manage and oversee the tenant work order system to ensure tenant requests are completed in a timely fashion. Enter tenant charges for billing as needed.
- Coordinate tenant and base building work to include tenant move ins and move outs, deliveries and capital work. Ensure proper notifications, authorizations and Certificates of Insurance are in place.
- Prepare and distribute tenant bulletins as directed by respective Property Manager or Portfolio Manager.
- Assist with the management of the access control system and issue tenant access cards as needed.
Administrative
- Assist with building correspondence to and from vendors, staff, and the Corporate office as directed by respective Property Manager or Portfolio Manager.
- Prepare daily memos for after-hours activity and distribute to the base building staff.
- Prepare weekly payroll for the property staff.
- Prepare paperwork for issues relating to building personnel.
- Prepare and complete monthly, quarterly, annual reporting as directed.
- Maintain emergency contact information, and routinely update for tenants, vendors, and building staff.
- Manage tenant and vendor certificate of insurance process, including provider’s agreements; ensure all COIs are up-to-date, accurate, and entered into the database.
- Maintain and update tenant and staff contact lists.
- Maintain and organize all building office files.
- Maintain proficiency in all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Complete all required Property Assistant training classes.
- Assist in any special projects requested by the Property Manager or Corporate Office, and handle any additional or miscellaneous duties assigned by management
Financial
- Oversee the invoice process from start to completion; ensure proper documentation is attached to invoice and route it to the appropriate parties for approval. Ensure invoices are processed within a timely manner. Follow up with vendors on any past due invoices / statements
- Create and track purchase orders and contracts as directed.
- Assist with accruals and variance reporting as directed by respective Property Manager or Portfolio Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university is preferred, with related experience and/or training. Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
Communication Skills
Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisors. Ability to effectively present information to an internal department and/or large groups of employees.
Financial Knowledge
Requires basic knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills.
