Position Summary:
The HR Business Partner plays a key role in driving our people strategy across the organization, working closely with the VP of HR and cross-functional leadership teams. This role is responsible for aligning HR practices with business goals, supporting our diverse teams across restaurant, winery, venue, and event operations. This position leads workforce planning efforts, guides employee relations, supports talent acquisition and development, and champions initiatives that foster engagement, retention, and performance. The HR Business Partner acts as a strategic advisor to department heads and senior leaders, ensuring our HR approach is proactive, compliant, and growth-oriented. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-touch environment and is passionate about building strong, people-first cultures that drive operational success.
Responsibilities:
HR Strategy & Workforce Planning
• Partner with leadership on workforce planning efforts to ensure staffing meets operational demands. This includes GMs, Executive Chefs, Ops Leaders, Event/Programming Leaders.
• Lead and manage HR Specialist and Talent Manager provide guidance, support, and development opportunities
• Lead and support the design and development of people priorities and serve as a strategic partner to stakeholders and align with business objectives in partnership with VP of HR.
• Implement initiatives to improve employee engagement, retention, and productivity.
Talent Acquisition & Development
• Collaborate with Talent manager and hiring teams locally to ensure effective talent acquisition strategies
• Implement and facilitate programs for leadership development, succession planning, and career pathing to support employee growth and retention
Employee Relations & Compliance
• Serve as a trusted advisor on employee relations matters, ensuring a fair and inclusive workplace.
• Ensure compliance with labor laws, health and safety regulations, and company policies.
• Point person in investigations ensuring fairness and adherence to policy
• Knowledge of state and local employment laws, particularly in states where City Winery operates
•Strong understanding of labor regulations including FLSA (80/20 tip credit rule), EEOC guidelines, and general employment compliance
• Drive proactive employee engagement strategies to maintain a positive work environment.
HR Operations & Performance Management
• Utilize HR analytics to identify trends and recommend data-driven improvements.
• Partner with leaders to implement effective performance management programs for our teams
• Lead change management initiatives and support organizational development efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and adaptability
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the hospitality industry
• Strong knowledge of labor laws, compliance, and HR best practices.
• Experience in employee relations, talent development, and performance management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and influence key stakeholders.
